International vision of beauty all the rage in Asian nation

Emma Sibbles picks out the winners and losers in a voguish decade that has seen rows rage over size-zero models and a whole host of stars jump on the designer bandwagon.

In terms of fashion, we’ve come - and gone - a long way in 10 years. Of course, lots of our fashion looks were resurrected from decades’ past, but the first decade of the millennium likely will be remembered for a few certain unfortunate looks.

With the year — and the decade — winding down, people are busier than ever.  So to keep things simpler in these tough times, we’ve narrowed down our list to five things that are in and five things that are out in each category: News and Politics, Entertainment, Sports and Life in the USA.

When Michelle Obama moved into the White House in January, America unknowingly welcomed its newest style star, but our FLOTUS is hardly the only fashion-conscious leading lady to grace the globe. From French-chic Carla Bruni to Syria’s natural beauty Asma al-Assad to Japan’s quirky Miyuki Hatoyama, the world has a lot of mode to make it go ’round.

The Friends of the Mendham Borough Library teamed up with area businesses to host a fashion show on Thursday, Dec. 3. More than 110 guests watched Mendham friends model the season’s styles. The show was at the home of Michael and Alex Zawadiwsky. Models included Maureen Marx, Amy Stull, Kate Rizzo, and Kathryn Oram.

The fashion world was riding high as the decade began. Luxury was the buzzword, and style lovers couldn’t wait to get their hands on the next designer bag or pair of pumps. Exotic skins, fur and premium denim were in demand.
